Backstage Template Generator - Create Catalog Items in minutes - not hours.

Our template generator enables the quick creation of new templates with minimal effort. We support various sources from which the possible parameters are automatically loaded so that you only must select them. Various form fields enable the standardization of values, which massively improves the user experience of templates and ensures that standards are adhered to.

Create your workflow in a short time with only a few steps:

Step 01

Select Template Source

Start by selecting the source from which you want to generate a new template. We support a wide range of sources, such as Terraform modules or Helm Charts.

Step 02

Configure Template Settings

Define the template metadata, including values like Owner, eligible users and tags

Step 03

Edit Template Parameters

Select the values you want to use in the template and customize their inputs to your needs. We support various inputs, allowing you to map your deployment process according to your exact requirements.

Step 04

Review Template

Before publishing, you can review the template to make sure that the form is structured the way you want it to be.

Step 05

Publish Template

The new template is automatically published in the Backstage catalog. Our RBAC rules automatically release the template for all authorized users.

Use Actions for Loading Values from External Systems

Instead of defining values statically in your UI elements, you can prefill your controls with external data sources - for example, retrieve values from your CMDB, fetch values from VMware NSX or any information from your cloud provider.

Approval policies

GitOps Director leverages merge requests to enable approval workflows for your resources. Once a change is requested, GitOps Director will automatically create a new merge request and track its status is tracked. Users with maintainer or higher roles can then approve or reject the request.
